Things....by Scott Wesley Brown

Things upon the mantle, things on every shelf. Things that others gave me, things I gave myself. Things I've stored in boxes, that don't mean much anymore, old magazines & memories behind the attic door...things. Things on hooks & hangers, things on ropes & rings, things I guard that blind me to the pettiness of things. Am I like the rich young ruler, ruled by all I own? If Jesus came & asked me, could I leave them all alone? To gain eternal insight that nothing is really mine... and to only ask for daily bread & all contentment brings. To find freedom as your servant, in the midst of all these things.

For discarded in the junk yards, rusting in the rain, lie things that took the finest years of lifetimes to obtain. And whistling through these tombstones, the hollow breezes sing, a song of dreams surrendered to the tyranny of....things.

A Woman

stands alone when you hear the words Cancer.

Thinks of her children first. . .

Remembers all the "To Do's" on her list. . .
Wishes she'd gone to church more,
and made love more,
and Stands alone
her life
in Gods' Palm.

A Woman
sits in that hospital chair
with a blank look
yet a smile on her face
and a pain in her heart

Chemo. . .

A life line or a band-aide,
For all her hurts.

A Woman
lays alone
in the darkness of winter,
Seems all day and every night too. . .

Waiting for next spring,
When it is all over,
When the earth is warm
and there will be a reason again
To go outside
and smile
and live!
Her life
is in Gods' Palm.
